Senior BI & Analytics Developer

Our client is a fast growing, private health care provider specializing in Medicaid, Medicare and Pharmacy benefit management based in Michigan serving multiple states. This company has an immediate opening for a Sr. Business Intelligence & Analytics Developer.  This position is responsible for developing their healthcare subject matter expertise as it relates to building the data structures supporting BI reporting, and analytics. The role will build reports, dashboards, and perform analytics as needed. The role will entail being an expert at understanding data structures, both Inmon and Kimball methodologies.  The senior developer will mentor and assist junior staff in developing reports, dashboards, and analytics. This position requires a level of interest and passion for Big Data processing, warehousing, reporting, and analytics that is unparalleled! Full-Time, permanent hire.

The following are high level requirements for the role:    

  • 5+ Years of Business Intelligence & Reporting Experience Specifically in Data Warehousing
  • Experience with Tableau (QlikView, PowerBI also considered)
  • Healthcare (Payer) or Related Knowledge and Experience (Highly Preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Become an expert with Meridian data, including claims, memberships, provider, contracts, networks, pharmacy, and clinical subject areas
  • Facilitates meetings with business subject matter experts, decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define goals and requirements for reports, dashboards, and analytics
  • Translates business goals and requirements into designs, utilizing best practice design patterns
  • Develops best practice design patterns
  • Engages with data architects and ETL developers to assist with creating optimal data structures to support BI, reporting, dashboards and analytics.
  • Collaborates as an expert in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new BI applications, and enhancements to existing applications
  • Collaborates with source system developers to identify relevant data to be included in the warehouse and in the big data environment.
  • Develops junior level resources so that they learn the craft

Experience

  • 5+ Years of Business Intelligence & Reporting Experience in an Enterprise Class Environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Business Information/Business Administration is required.
  • Expert knowledge of data warehouse design requirements, utilizing both star schema and 3rd normal form warehouses, as well as big data structures such a s parquet or avro files.
  • Expert level SQL knowledge (at least 4.5/5 or better).
  • Sophisticated in eliciting and gathering business requirements, developing technical specifications per requirements, and translating requirements into elegant designs.
  • Experience in planning, designing, development, and deployment of BI applications, and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Extensive healthcare experience and related business knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing junior colleagues.
  • Demonstrated experience building drill-down dashboards.
  • Expert understanding of Data warehouse design for both Inmon and Kimball designs, being able to expertly distinguish between the two, and to articulate when each is appropriate.
  • Phenomenal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent, expert analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise with BI and visualization tools, such as Tableau or Qlikview, PowerBI etc, and building data cubes.

Demonstrated expertise with reporting tools, such as Cognos, Crystal Reports, or Business Objects.

Exposure to or hands on knowledge of Big Data technologies, such as Hadoop, HBASE, Hive, Impala, KUDU, and the knowledge to know when to use them.

  • In-depth understanding of data models.
